Scott Leaman has dedicated his nineteen-year teaching career to choral programs in Florida. For the past ten years, Scott has been choral director at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee. He is currently the longest-running active member of the Florida ACDA Board, serving eight years as the Repertoire and Standards Chair for Male Choirs and four years as Membership Chair. In addition to his ACDA leadership positions, he has served as District Coordinator and District Chairman for the Florida Vocal Association, and he is a member of the FMEA Steering Committee for Emerging Leaders. Scott is a featured conductor of the Lincoln Women’s Chorale and FSU Women’s Glee Club on the CD “Songs From My Heart—Choral Music of Andre Thomas.” Under his direction, the Lincoln High School Men’s Chorale was invited to perform at the 2007 Florida ACDA State Conference, and several of his ensembles have served as demonstration groups for other ACDA Conferences. Scott has also been a presenter and member of round table discussions at many FMEA, FVA, ad ACDA State and Division Conferences. As a student, Scott Leaman was a part of music programs in Seminole County from kindergarten through high school. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from the Florida State University College of Music, and as an undergraduate he was awarded the Robert Lawson Shaw Conducting Scholarship. His conducting teachers include Andre Thomas, Thomas Hilbish, and Kevin Fenton. Scott is an active adjudicator and clinician and has conducted All-County and All-District Choirs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels throughout the Southeast. In 2008 he received his National Board Certification. Prior to teaching at Lincoln High School, Scott taught for nine years in Brevard County, Florida, at Stone Junior High School and Palm Bay High School. He was selected as the Teacher of the Year at PBHS for the 2000-01 school year and was a finalist for Brevard County Teacher of the Year. Scott and his wife Lisa, a fellow graduate of the Florida State University College of Music, are Directors of Music at Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church.
